Marc Ellen Hamel “Color on the Wall” opening Sept 25th!

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

We are proud to be showcasing the art of local color master Marc Ellen Hamel in our backroom gallery!

She works in a wonderful abstract style the emphasises her bold use of color and rich texture. Marc Ellen is a Noe Valley local who lives just down the street from the shop and paints in her studio in Hunters Point.

Please come to our opening reception on Friday night from 6pm to 8pm. Meet and greet the fabulous artist, drink some wine, eat some cheese and pet Chico! We look forward to seeing you!

All works for this show are in oil and all pieces are available for purchase. I can’t help to think how much Marc Ellen’s work reminds me of some of the colorful Gabbeh rugs that we sell such as this one or this one too. What do you think?

Learn more about Marc Ellen here from her website.

Treasure Creatures Art by Miguel Strong

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Miguel Strong’s recent showing of art in Nomad Rugs’ Gallery was a blast!

Check out Miguel’s astute art criticism here:

Miguel is one of the outstanding citizens of the Bay Area and we were delighted to showcase his unique whit, warmth and creativity. For his “day job”, he can be found makin’ sweet music with the magical music and dance troupe, the Yard Dogs Road Show.

Here is Nomad Rugs’ own Tora Fujimatic with my favorite piece from the show, “Elvis”.

And finally, the inimitable artist, Miguel. Thanks Miguel!

Jennifer Harris Shows New Work

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

In part of Nomad Rugs’ ongoing showcase of local artist, we are pleased to present Jennifer Harris’ new works. Come and take a look at Jennifer’s work, showing through March 2008.

I’ve been a big fan of Jennifer’s work since I met her first in the shop about 6 years ago. We got into a interesting discussion about art and culture and she handed me her card with a great image of one of her pieces on the front. Right away, I knew I wanted to see her work in person and I am delighted to be showing it in our gallery.

I’m really impressed with the universal themes and the psychological depth of Jennifer’s paintings. But, at first glance, the images are bright, playful, almost naive and very approachable. Spend a little more time looking and feeling and you gain a deeper appreciation that there is a lot going on here. This is one of my favorite pieces from the show.

Her work invites us to explore and question with a playful and optimistic attitude. Thanks Jennifer!
