Afghanistan: Made with natural dyes and handspun wool. This rug comes from a project employing primarily Hazara Afghan weavers. Weaving takes place near Kabul. This is one of our "antique revival" carpets; carpets that have the look and feel of antique rugs with none of the worn or repaired areas often associated with old rugs. This rug matches and even surpasses the quality of the fine rugs woven over 100 years ago. To create a fine revival piece requires the use of only the best materials available: handspun long staple Central Asian Ghazni wool. This high quality wool, which comes from sheep bred in the mountainous Ghazni province between Kabul and Kandahar, was selected specifically for its highly durable fibers. In addition, all natural dyes were used and the rug was given only a mild soap and water wash. This piece is woven with a classic Persian village design with a knot count of about 100 knots per inch. The colors and wool in this rug are extraordinary; capturing the sublime essence found in superior carpets!
