Pakistan: Natural dyes. These rugs are produced exclusively for Nomad Rugs and woven in a project run by Afghan Turkmen refugees in Northern Pakistan. Lebaab refers to the ancestral homeland of the Turkmen in Central Asia. It was our desire to produce rugs that pay homage to the Turkmen culture. To this end, we have specified that these rugs are woven using only natural vegetal dyes such as madder root and indigo; that the wool is entirely hand-carded and hand-spun and washed with mild soap and water; and that the weaving takes place in safe and fair conditions, often in individual family homes with mothers, daughters and grand-mothers working side-by-side. The designs are selected from unusual antique tribal and village rugs that we come across in our travels and some modern designs. This piece is inspired from Persian classics.
