These rugs are produced exclusively for Nomad Rugs and woven in a project employing Afghan Turkmen refugees in Northern Pakistan. Lebaab refers to the ancestral homeland of the Turkmen in Central Asia. It was our desire to produce rugs that pay homage to the Turkmen culture. To this end, we have specified that these rugs are woven using only natural vegetal dyes such as madder root and indigo; that the wool is entirely hand-carded and hand-spun and washed only with mild soap and water; and that the weaving takes place in safe and fair conditions, often in individual family homes with mothers, daughters and grand-mothers working side-by-side. This piece features a Central Asian felt design. We are a Care and Fair member: supporting education and health care in rug weaving countries.
