Afghanistan: Natural dyes. This rug was woven by Hazara weavers and features a beautiful Mamluk decorative design. The Hazara are a Shia people who lived for centuries in the central region of Afghanistan. With the end of the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, most of the Hazara residing in Pakistan have returned to their homes in Afghanistan. The Hazara weavers produce a very finely woven supple carpet with a symmetrical knot. This knot with the fine supple weave gives these carpets the look and handle of old rugs.
