Afghanistan: Natural dyes. This rug, with its distinctly tribal design, was woven by Hazara weavers. The Hazara are a Shia people who lived for centuries in the central region of Afghanistan; this is the area were the great Buddha of Bamiyan was located. The Hazara weavers produce a very finely woven supple carpet with a symmetrical knot. This knot with the fine supple weave gives these carpets the look and handle of old tribal rugs.
