Pakistan: Natural dyes. This rug, with its distinctly tribal design orginating from the Caucuses, was woven by Hazara weavers. The Hazara are a Shia people who lived for centuries in the central region of Afghanistan. With the end of the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, many of the Hazara residing in Pakistan have returned to their homes in Afghanistan. The Hazara weavers produce a very finely woven supple carpet with a symmetrical knot. This knot with the fine supple weave gives these carpets the look and handle of old tribal rugs.
