Marrakesh Rug Collection

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

Check out these beautiful new rugs from India!

They are woven in chunky and lustrous hand-spun wool in all natural wool tones and earthy warm tones.

The designs from these rugs are inspired by the classic Beni Ourain Moroccan tribal carpets.

These carpets are both modern and primitive. They are thick and warm. And they will add texture and depth to any room!

These four carpets are all in 3×5 size. Soon we will be receiving some larger sizes of these rugs too. And these rugs can be custom ordered in any size with an approximate four month delivery time. I hope you like these as much as me!

Bold and Bright Ikat Pillows

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Just in from Uzbekistan direct to your home!

These bright and colorful pillows are made from Ikat fabric that was salvaged from deconstructed vintage Uzbek chapans (long coats).

These pillows have been expertly stuffed with custom sized pillow inserts filled with goose down (thank you Cushion Works for your consistently wonderful work! Cushion Works is the place in SF to go to get stuffed! hee hee).

Some of these pillows have ikat on one side and a cream silk backing on the other side. But some of these pillows are double sided with spectacular ikat on both sides!

In any event, these pillows are glorious textile treasures in their own right! One of these pillows can add just the right accent of color or design “pop” in a minimalist room but they can work equally well in colorful rooms to add that extra eye dazzle! Or buy a half-dozen for a high-end pillow fight!

I think you will love these pillows! (I do!) Come by to check them out. Or, you can check out all our pillows here on our website. Thanks, Chris

For 2012 Cool and Calm Carries On

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

Every year trends in color seem to shift and vary. One year I may sell dozens of rugs in a given style or colors whereas the next year the same rug does not sell nearly as well. It is hard to predict or anticipate so I am always looking for new styles and color combinations to see what might excite our clients. And more importantly, I only acquire rugs made with integrity from good materials and fair labor.

Although this year I continue to sell a lot of richly saturated tribal rugs in dark reds, blues and greens I have noticed a new trend: people have been loving the all natural un-dyed wool carpets in grays and browns and tans. In addition, the cool and calm blues and blue/grays seem very popular at present; colors that I describe as having a very “Zen” quality.

Here are a few samples from our current inventory to give you some ideas. Click on the pictures to take you to more images and information of each rug. And thanks for looking! Chris

Delicious Suzani Carpet Just In!

Sunday, May 13th, 2012

Receiving a new shipment of rugs is an exciting activity at Nomad Rugs. Some rugs that we order take for than a year to produce. And when a shipment finally arrives I always end up feeling a bit like a kid on Christmas Eve.

With each shipment there is typically one or two “favorite” rugs; rugs that for some reason catch my eye and imagination. Then, every six months to a year there is a rug that just takes my breath away; a rug that is visually interesting and balanced; a rug with radiant color; and a rug that is well woven with outstanding wool. A rug that meets all of these criteria only comes around so often…. and we just got one in!

This new Suzani rug from Afghanistan just blew us away. We left this one on the top of our 8×10 pile and every time Tora (the store manager here) walked by and could hear him saying to himself, “Beautiful”.

Yes, it is beautiful! Come by to take a look! Thanks, Chris
