Tora and Tiger Honey Pot

Sunday, October 24th, 2010

Many of you may already know Tora.

Tora sporting an Uzbek ikat chapan. He’s been helping out here at Nomad Rugs for some time. He is one of the nicest guys you will meet and he has a great eye for design and color. Originally he is from Nagano, Japan but he has made San Francisco his home.

But, have you hear of Tiger Honey Pot? No…? Well, Tiger Honey Pot is Tora (on guitar) and Jon-Jon’s (on drums) rockin’ rock ‘n roll band! They play mostly original songs. Check em out in the clip here and go see them live in SF! You won’t believe that so much sound can come out of just two guys! Guaranteed you’ll have a good time! Thanks for looking. Chris

Pictures of Abrash

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Abrash is the wonderful natural variation of color that one gets when using natural dyes along with handspun wool. Although it is possible to “fake” abrash using synthetic dyes by tie-dying the raw wool, it does not look the same as when produced with natural dyes. Also, when you use good handspun wool and synthetic dyes, you can also achieve some degree of natural abrash, although it is not as pronounced as when you use all natural dyes. Although not everyone is a fan of abrash, I personally love it! I think the natural variegation and distinct “organic” look that the abrash imparts adds an element of depth to a good rug; like looking into a pool of water or a field of flowers. Here are some pictures from some of our rugs to give you an idea of what abrash looks like. Thanks for looking! Chris

“Rug Dealers” Hip Hop Dance

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

These guys are great dancers! I’m not sure how this fits into “Nomad Rugs News” but I just thought this was so cool and I love the old-school rug store setting. Check it out! Les Twins from Paris, France.
